ABOUT

Our founder Martha Tønnesen started this shop in Haugesund in 1965 and moved into the location it is in today in 1978. Back then there was a main handicraft-shop under the Norwegian Folk Art and Crafts Association, which was the location where most traditional garments were produced. However during the 80’s this shop closed down and Garnkroa bought the remaining stock from that store. This made it possible for Garnkroa to expand and grow, becoming one of Norway’s largest handicraft-shops. Offering yarn and knitting material on the 1st floor, bunad, embroidery and weaving on the 2nd floor and the shops sewing room on the 3rd floor. Come visit our shop and we will help you find what you need.
